In an effort to provide easy access to IUCN Red List training worldwide, IUCN is partnering with ConservationTraining.org to offer a new online course on the rules and standards developed by IUCN to assess species' extinction risk.
This free curriculum explains in detail how to produce a scientifically rigorous IUCN Red List assessment. It will cover all of the key elements that Red List assessors must learn, including: how to use the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria; how to use the IUCN regional guidelines for regional assessments; IUCN Red List mapping protocols; supporting information requirements for IUCN Red List assessments; and how to use the IUCN Species Information Service (SIS).
This course will provide learners with the opportunity to explore, at their own pace, the process of assessing species' extinction risk for the global IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™ or for regional and national red lists. The curriculum is made up of a series of short modules complete with practical examples and additional resource references, and allows learners to receive an IUCN Red List Assessor certificate upon successful completion of a final exam.
