Welcome to the Fisheries Capacity Building Program for the Gulf of California and Northern Pacific. Thanks to the generous support of the Walton Family Foundation, this program is being implemented by The Nature Conservancy (TNC), Mexico's National Fisheries Institute (NAPESCA) and the National Fisheries Commission (CONASPESCA). The online component of this program consists of 7 online courses planned to meet specific needs of the Mexican fishing authorities. These courses have been developed by various institutions and recognized experts in these subjects. The lessons are available in English and Spanish.

The FishPath Network New Member On-Boarding training course is designed to familiarize new members with the FishPath approach. The course provides an overview of 1) Intro to FishPath; 2) FishPath Tool; 3) FishPath Process; and 4) the FishPath Network.


Duration: 2 hours

The FishPath Tool is an online, publicly available resource to support improved fisheries management design. In this course, learn how to use the FishPath Tool and understand all the interactive features.

In this course, we will provide a brief introduction to coastal fisheries and sustainable fisheries management, including the importance of coastal fisheries and sustainable management, basic terminology, an overview of the fisheries management cycle and the elements and considerations necessary to design effective fisheries management. This course will focus on the application of fisheries management to address the challenges and context of coastal and small-scale fisheries; however, the general concepts could be applied to all fisheries.

This course is intended to be an introduction to fisheries for anyone interested regardless of background or knowledge level but will be particularly helpful for those participating in a FishPath engagement. If you are brand new to fisheries management, we suggest starting with Module 1.  If you already have some basic knowledge Module 2 may be a more appropriate starting point.
